MESSAGE FROM THE CHAIR

A great deal has happened since last month when I officially took on this role—a financial crisis took hold of most of the world, for example. I have been pleasantly surprised by the energy people still have for exploring Latin American options for sourcing great talent at competitive costs. While cost-cutting seems to be drawing a lot of attention again, I think we aren’t always asking the right question. Shaving some percentage points off the back-office may sound attractive, but using the right combination of local, near-shore, and off-shore talent to transform an industry is far more likely to be the difference-maker in today’s environment.

Another pleasant surprise has been the discovery of new depth in the region. I was fairly knowledgeable about the Latin American Outsourcing industry before I started helping OI, but in the last month I have found new providers executing, amongst other exciting things:

  • Complex SAAS development for US Software companies
  • Credible full suite BPO services for mid-size enterprises
  • World-class mobile application development
  • Innovative, high-end UI design
  • Legal process outsourcing
  • ….and many more

I encourage those of you who are already there to share some success stories (and the failures too!) in our forums. And if you are just beginning to explore the potential of Latin America, prepare to be pleasantly surprised! Of course, you can learn a lot about Latin American Outsourcing here at OI too, and you should feel free to contact me directly with requests and suggestions. Check out this month’s great new content, participate in the community, and get the most from your OI membership!

Esteban welcomes your suggestions and requests. He can be reached at eherrera@novaspheregroup.com and you can read his popular blog at http://novasphereblog.com
